Gayle Elizabeth Clark Conwill passed into God’s hands on September 19, 2021.
She was born and raised in Gulfport, the eldest daughter of Walter Hurley Clark and Yvonne Ladnier Clark; and sister to Thomas Clark (Nancy), Michael Clark (Florence), Cheryl Clark Rakes (Joe), and Patrick Clark.
After graduating from St John High School and attending Gulf Park in Long Beach, Gayle met and married the love of her life, George “Buster” Meisner Conwill, the fruits of which produced George Geoffrey Conwill, Laurie Conwill Sumrall (Bill), George Christopher Conwill (Veronica), Jennifer Conwill Ezelle (Ty), Celine Conwill Fortenberry (Thomas), and George Jason Clark Conwill. Her grand- and step-grandchildren include Christopher, Alexander, and Jana Fortenberry; Colton and Emily Ezelle; Cameron Sumrall; Barry and Jamison Delcambre. Gayle also was blessed with many cousins, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, and grand-nieces. After giving birth to her youngest, Gayle went back to school and graduated in nursing from USM. After working in several area nursing homes and hospitals, Gayle established her career at the Biloxi V.A. and eventually became a nurse manager there for many years.
When her beloved Buster became gravely ill, Gayle immediately retired to attend to his needs. A woman of deep faith in Jesus, Gayle proved her Roman Catholic faith over and over again in the countless acts of self-sacrificial love she made, not only for her dear family, but for anybody in need. She has gone to heaven, but those who knew her on this earth will miss her every day until their time too comes and can be reunited. We’ll miss you, Mom!
Gayle is preceded in death by her grandmother, Celine Chauvet Ladnier; her dear aunt, June Ladnier Labelle and her uncle, Tom Labelle; her cousin, Jan Labelle; her parents, Hurley and Yvonne; and her brother, Patrick Clark; her uncle Rex Ward and aunt Adele Clark Ward; her cousin, Louise Ward; brother-in-law D.O.Conwill III; and her beloved husband, George M Conwill.
After a private family Reqiuem Mass and funeral, family and friends are invited to a reception at 1:00 PM, Friday, September 24, 2021, at the Long Beach Yacht Club.
