Gary Ivan Rumick

Gary Ivan Rumick, age 76, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Margaret Rumick.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Iris Rumick; his children, Adam and Ashley; and his grandchildren, Logan and Lila. 

Gary was a native of New Orleans, and over his lifetime lived in Rockhill South Carolina, Sacramento, California and Covington Louisiana.

He graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1965 and went on to get his bachelor's degree from Loyola University.

Gary owned and operated dry cleaning businesses in California and Rockhill then, after somewhat retiring, he worked for the San Juan Unified and St. Tammany School Districts. He was known for his friendliness and love of life. Gary was such a gentleman, he always had a smile and offered words of encouragement to all. He enjoyed golf, pickleball, fishing and was an LSU Tigers fan.

Gary will be deeply missed not only by family and lifelong friends but by all those who have met him and enjoyed one of his jokes or have been touched by his smile and encouragement to believe in oneself. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gary's honor to Shriners Hospitals for Children or The Gary Sinise Veteran's Foundation.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, beginning at 10:00 AM at Jacob's Well Baptist Church, with a service to follow.
