Gary Henry Horman, born in Woodbury, New Jersey on June 8, 1941, flew to his new life on Friday, February 5, 2021.

Gary was preceded to his Heavenly Father by his parents, Robert Henry Horman & Margaret Mary (Mae) Moore Horman; His Wife’s parents, Lloyd & Ida Catchot; and His Sisters, Patricia Horman McIntosh (Mack) & Jeannie Horman (Warren).

He is the very loved husband of Rose Mary Catchot Horman of 53 years; and father to David Lloyd Horman (Devon) and Eric August Horman. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Amanda Rose Horman; nephew, Scott McIntosh (Jo); nieces, Donna Reid, Kathleen Reid Piltz (Ed) & Sandy Exstein (Chuck); and many Horman, Moore & Catchot cousins.

Gary graduated from Paulsboro HS, New Jersey in 1959 & Rutgers University for men in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in Planning Engineering. He was a member of the fraternity Beta Theta Pi. He then graduated from University of Southern MS with a Master’s degree in Administration. He served in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1972. He was a certified Air Traffic Controller from Keesler AFB stationed at Bunker Hill, Indiana. He was called up for flight school at Mather AFB, California, graduating first in his Class. He served as a Captain in the Air Force, flying an EC-47 prop plane in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He returned to the US & flew two more years transporting equipment & supplies to Vietnam in a C-141 from McGuire AFB, Sea Airlift Command in New Jersey. After leaving the Air Force he moved to Ocean Springs, MS with his wife & children. Ocean Springs being his wife’s native hometown. He was Director of the Planning Dept at the Seabee Base in Gulfport, MS for many years until he was appointed Director of Naval Station Pascagoula from Naval Operations in Washington, DC. He retired from Naval Station Pascagoula in 1998. Gary had many interests & while working at Naval Station Pascagoula, he obtained his Captain’s License to run his very loved charter fishing boat, “The Shearwater,” part time. He ran fishing & camping trips to Horn Island for 15 years while still working at Naval Station Pascagoula. After he retired from Naval Station Pascagoula, he continued favorite hobbies, repairing & selling Vintage Lionel Trains & Trading Old US Coins. He was an avid collector of both since childhood. He also was a semiprofessional poker player, playing in tournaments in several states. He lived a good life full of adventures. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Services, with Military Honors, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11th at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., @ Washington Ave., West Jackson County, where friends may visit 30 minutes prior. A Private Burial will take place at Bellande Cemetery in Ocean Springs.
