Gary Wayne Hoda, Sr.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Wayne Hoda Sr., who departed this life on March 23, 2025, at the age of 65. Born on November 27, 1959, in Kiln, Mississippi, Gary lived a life marked by love, laughter, and an appreciation for the simple joys that made each day meaningful.

Gary had a gift for making people feel seen and welcomed—he truly never met a stranger. His gentle spirit, quick wit, and big heart left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal friend whose presence brought comfort and joy.

He spent 31 years at Northrop Grumman, where he served as a Bay Foreman with unwavering dedication and pride. Gary wasn’t just a leader—he was a mentor, a problem-solver, and the kind of person others looked up to. His work ethic, integrity, and deep respect for his team earned him lifelong friendships and the admiration of all who worked alongside him.

In recent years, Gary Sr. and his son, Gary Wayne Hoda Jr., co-founded Shine Boys Auto Detailing—a venture that brought their shared passion to life. More than a business, it was a testament to their close bond, built on trust, respect, and countless meaningful moments spent side by side. For Gary, the opportunity to create something lasting with his son was not only a source of pride, but one of the most treasured experiences of his life.

Since the 1970s, he also found joy in working with Fantasy Productions—bringing people together through music, lights, and unforgettable memories. Watching others dance and celebrate life reminded him of what mattered most: making every moment count.

Gary shared a meaningful chapter of his life with his former wife, Marian Deschamp. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and memories that will be cherished for generations. Though their paths eventually diverged, the life they built continued to leave a lasting impact on those around them.

Gary remained a devoted and steady presence in the life of his son, Gary Wayne Hoda Jr. (Barbara Hoda), instilling in him the values of integrity, perseverance, and unconditional love. He also embraced the role of stepfather with open arms, sharing in the lives of Danny Hamby Jr., Kimberly Perkins (Matt), and Sabra Shoemaker (Bubba).

One of Gary’s greatest joys in life was being “Paw Paw.” He was a proud grandfather to many—Traven Hoda and Thomas Hoda, Sydney Godwin, Emily Arnold, Connor Arnold, Christopher Arnold, Danielle James (Kyle), Dalton Hamby (Kayla), Allyson Perkins Hopgood (Tristan), and Brooke and Tommy Shoemaker. Whether it was sharing stories, sneaking treats, or simply being present, Gary embraced every moment with his grandchildren.

He also found great delight in welcoming the next generation—his great-grandchildren: Grayson, Silas, Brayden, Willow, and Weston. The little ones brought him so much joy, and he never missed a chance to light up around them

Gary had a lifelong passion for classic cars. The rumble of a well-tuned engine, the gleam of a polished hood, and the freedom of the open road were among his greatest joys. Events like Cruisin’ the Coast were more than hobbies—they were treasured traditions that reflected his love for the road and the community that came with it. As a proud member of the Boulevard Cruisers of Picayune, Gary found camaraderie and joy in celebrating the automotive world with fellow enthusiasts. Beyond his love of cars, Gary will be remembered most for how he made people feel—welcomed, seen, and valued. Whether it was a long conversation by his Corvette, lending a helping hand, or sharing a joke that could lift anyone’s spirits, his presence was truly a gift to all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved sister, Emmi Dubuisson (Roger), who will always carry his love, strength, and legacy with her. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who were each touched by his warmth and kindness.  Gary is now reunited with his parents, Ervin and Louise Hoda, and his brothers, Phillip and Mike Hoda—cruising the highways of heaven, where the roads are smooth, the engines never fade, and the ride never ends.
