Long Beach

Gail Margaret Stopson, age 74 of Long Beach, passed away on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. She was born on June 3, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, to Wilmont and Betty Belfry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmont A. and Betty A. Belfry; and her brother, Monty Belfry.

Gail is survived by her children, Joy Stopson, Tracy Stopson (Paul Scardino), and Julie Mooney (Tommy); her sister, Diane L. Thornton; her grandchildren, Katelynn Ann Seal, Michael Nasakaitis III, Aulora Rusk, Elizabeth Stopson, Tristin Stanley, and Dean Mooney; and her great grandchildren, Jayden Cooley, Madison Cooley, Bentley Seal, and Elias Nasakaitis.

After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Southern Alabama, she was employed as a PACU Nurse at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport. Gail was recognized for having outstanding leadership as chairperson coordinating council of Memorial Hospital from 1988 to 1989, as well as MNA in 1989. She was published in the "Parents and Kids Magazine", "The Magnolia Quarterly" and in "Katrina Memories".

Gail enjoyed painting, ceramics, crafts, and was also an avid reader. She was involved with New Wine in 2008, The Girl Scouts, Long Beach Girls Softball Coach, taught SRE, member of the Knights of Columbus #4898 Ladies' Auxiliary, along with being a member of St. Thomas Church in Long Beach, MS.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 17, 2021, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Long Beach. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Long Beach, is serving the family.
