Gail Carpenter

d. July 3, 2022

Ocean Springs

Gail Carpenter, Ocean Springs, MS, age of 73, passed away, July 3, 2022, peacefully, with her husband of 39 years, Michael C. Carpenter by her side.  Gail led a life of diverse experiences:  including serving in the Air Force as a jet engine mechanic, retired postal worker, martial arts student, reserve police officer, expert quilter and numerous other crafting exploits. Her love of quilting blessed many family members and friends. Gail overcame many obstacles in her life with a tenacity, not expected from a 95-pound mother of five. Gail is a two-time cancer survivor and defied all hospice odds, by taking control of her own life, on her own terms. Gail’s love of her pets, and there were many through the years, was only slightly less than the love she had for her husband and kids. If you were a friend of Gail’s, there is nothing she wouldn’t do for you. Gail is best known by her family as having the strength when others have none and an abundance of compassion. Again, animals were only second to humans.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Virginia Sonne. She is survived by her husband Michael C. Carpenter, Ocean Springs, MS.; children, J. Scott Dixon (spouse Conny), Phoenix, AZ; Sandi L. Dominey, Phoenix, AZ; Darci M. Gilreath, Monticello, GA; Sean M. Carpenter (spouse Kim), Louisville, KY; April K. Carpenter, Lake Elsinore, CA; and 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister, Renee Binder (spouse Wayne), Mt. Prospect, IL and extended family members and friends.

At the request of Gail there will be no visitation or services. In lieu of flowers or gifts, Gail would prefer that you donate to your local pet shelter or ASPCA.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, West Jackson County served the family.
