Friedrich Rudolf Deegen

Friedrich Rudolf Deegen, 90, passed away in Long Beach, Mississippi on October 2, 2011, following a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend to all who knew him, he will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Fred was born in Breslau, Germany on March 2, 1921 and immigrated to the United States with his wife Maria and their son Uwe in 1952. The family would make their new home in Biloxi. An accomplished photographer, Fred was a graduate of the New York Institute of Photography and worked professionally in this field for many years before joining the hotel and motel management team of American National Real Estate Corporation. Over his career, he managed a number of Mississippi Gulf Coast properties including the Edgewater Gulf Hotel, Gulf Hills Resort, the Markham Hotel and Edgewater Plaza Shopping City (now Edgewater Mall) in its early years and served as resident manager of the Gulfport Best Western Hotel until his retirement. He was also a charter member of the Biloxi-Edgewater Civitan Club and in his spare time enjoyed furniture-making and gardening as well as the affections of his beloved schnauzers, Pixie and Putzie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Magdalena Deegen of Long Beach, Mississippi and his parents, Margot and Ludwig Deegen and is survived by two sons, Dr. Frederick Deegen (Lynn) of Long Beach, Mississippi, Peter Deegen (Monika) of Berlin, Wisconsin, five grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Deegen of Long Beach, Fritz Deegen of Biloxi, Johannes Deegen, Moritz Deegen and Laura Deegen, all of Berlin, Wisconsin as well as a sister, Ute Moss of Boulder, Colorado.
Fred requested no formal funeral or ceremony, preferring instead a quiet private passage to meet his Heavenly Father.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach, is assisting the family with final arrangements.
