Freddie Duane Kuhn, age 68, of Gulfport, Mississippi, went to be with his Heavenly Father on July 3, 2024. Freddie fought a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer and heart failure and is now healed and standing tall again with no more pain, cuts, bruises or scars.
Freddie was born in Perry, Ohio, to Herbert “Ted” French Kuhn and Audrey Cathrine (Drake) Kuhn on July 6, 1955. He graduated from Gulfport East High School and college from Jefferson Davis Junior College and Delta State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Freddie was a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast since 1965. He was an ASE certified master technician and retired from Allen Toyota.
Freddie was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Karen (Self) Kuhn, his partner in life for 48 years. Freddie is survived by his wife, Karen; son, Herbert Ralph “H.R.” Kuhn; daughter, Kristin Michelle (Kuhn) Stanbro (Norman); grandson Jacob Allan Kuhn; granddaughters Haley Nichole Kuhn and Ava Karen-Marie Stanbro; sister Shirley Diane (Kuhn) Mayo; brothers Alan Dean Kuhn (Pam); and Alvin Dale “Herbie” Kuhn (Rosalind); sister-in-law April (Self) Jordan, whose husband (Richard “Ric”) he loved like a brother; sister-in-law Jerrie (Self) Dumas; lifelong best friend, Don Jones; best friend Butch “Doc” Rogers; his faithful companion and emotional support dog, Jessie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
Freddie is predeceased by his parents, Herbert “Ted” French Kuhn and Audrey Cathrine (Drake) Kuhn; grandparents, Hobert Marshall Kuhn, Maggie May (Murphy) Kuhn, Ira Melvin Drake, Iley Frances (Keaton) Drake and his brother-in-law whom he loved like a brother, Ralph Self (Brenda).
Freddie had a passion for helping others in any way he could. He was a Boy Scout, Boy Scout leader, and member of the Order of the Arrow. He was proud to be an American citizen and a Christian. He enjoyed spending time with family, working on home improvement projects, fishing, hunting, traveling, riding motorcycles, accompanying his father on guitar, and watching western movies, but his most memorable pastime was circle track racing at Mobile International Speedway. Freddie was a gifted mechanic and handyman who could build or repair just about anything. This talent became known as “Freddie-rigging” and he was very good at it. He was respected and loved by all who met him and he loved to talk to anyone and share his stories and knowledge, especially if it had to do with science or nature. Freddie was a member of the National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa. He received the Gerry Castleman Award while attending Gulfport High School. He recently received an honorary membership in the Gulf Coast Legal Professionals.
A Memorial service will be 10:00 am Saturday July 13, 2024 at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.
