Fred C. Anthony, age 86, and a resident of Gulfport, died on Sunday, March 1, 2009 in Gulfport.
Mr. Anthony was a long time resident of Gulfport and an elder and member of Olivet Baptist Church. He was a Christian who served his country faithfully and bravely in a long career in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Anthony served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre of operations with the 2nd Marine Division, as a machine gunner. He was involved in many military operations during the war, including the Battle of Tarawa in the South Pacific and numerous other landings and operations. He served with the 1st Marines in the Korean War, landing there in 1951. His career was one of service and bravery and he was extremely proud to be a United States Marine.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Lena Anthony. Mr. Anthony is survived by his wife, Luvene Ingram Anthony of Gulfport, 3 children, Elaine Hickmann Hannon (John) of Perkinston, Fred C. Anthony, Jr.(Maryanne) of Baltimore, Md., Sharon Anthony of McHenry; step children, Linda Ann Ingram of Gulfport, Debbie Ingram Deal of Gulfport and Karen Irene Ingram of Gulfport. Three grandchildren, Eric Daniels, Travis and Cade Anthony. step grandchild, Marsha Ingram Vinson, 1 great grandchild, Kolby Daniels and step great grandchild, Devynn Tyler Vinson.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 2, 2009 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Olivet Baptist Church, where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport, with full military honors.
