Ferd Lionel Moyse, Jr. died at his home in Gulfport, Mississippi on March 4, 2011.
Mr. Moyse was born in Greenville, Mississippi on July 12, 1919. He attended Greenville schools and graduated from Louisiana State University in 1941. Following graduation, he entered military service and served with the 87th Armored Field Artillery in Panama and Europe. While in Europe he volunteered to serve with the 82nd Airborne for the D-Day invasion, arriving in Normandy by glider. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and later served in the Korean War.
Mr. Moyse was co-owner of an insurance agency in Greenville for forty five years. While in Greenville, Mr. Moyse served on numerous boards and charities, including the Board of Directors of King's Daughters Hospital and the vestry of St. James Episcopal Church.
He was married to the former Kathryn Margaret Lobrano of New Orleans until her death in 1991. He later married the former Margaret McCoy Allen, and resided with her in Gulfport until his death.
An enthusiastic LSU fan and an avid golfer who achieved his second hole-in-one in his 80's, Poppee was much loved and revered for his wit, charm and intelligence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ida Leone Moyse Gilmore, and son, Ferd Lionel Moyse III. , and is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Moyse Levanway (Doug), daughter-in-law, Melissa Dark Moyse; stepchildren, Drew Allen (Nancy) and Christie Batson (Bryan); niece, Louise Kermode; grandchildren, Shelby Patterson (Nick), Ben Monning IV, McCullough Wells (Paul), Ferd Moyse IV; and step grandchildren, Wesley Batson, Lissa Batson, Andrew Allen, Grace Allen, and Darby Allen.
A memorial service will be held in Gulfport, Mississippi at 2:00 on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Visitation will precede the service at 1:00 at St. Mark's.
There will also be a visitation at St. James Episcopal Church in Greenville, Mississippi on Friday, March 11, 2011, at 1:00 PM followed by a graveside service. RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME assisted the family with arrangements.
