Eva Mariano

Eva M. Russell Mariano, age 70, passed away April 15, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dolphus C. and Ella Mae Russell; her brother, Earl L. Russell; and her sister, Jean R. Byrd.

Eva is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, David A. Mariano; stepchildren, Kimberly A. Thomas (Bennett), David A. Mariano, Jr., Gena M. Griffiths (Shannon), and Brian Mariano; her siblings, Betty L. King and Diane R. Dezio (Steven); 7 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She lived in North Carolina. Eva graduated from Wilkes Central High School, Western Carolina University, and she took additional college courses while serving in the Air Force. Eva was a foreign exchange student to Columbia, South America while at Western Carolina University. She served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force as an accounting/finance officer and attained the rank of Captain. Among her awards and decorations were a meritorious service medal, Air Force commendations medal, and a national defense service medal.

Eva loved to travel and read. She enjoyed music, dogs and embraced new surroundings. Eva was a licensed boat captain while she lived in Alaska. She was in the Emblem Club in Alaska, an American Legion member, and a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Eva always was a high achiever and success was her goal. She was generous and helpful to family and friends. She will be greatly missed by many.
