Eugenia C. """"Janie"""" Kates, age 85, passed away at home in Gulfport on February 5, 2008. Shw was born on March 19, 1922 in Mississippi City, MS and has been a resident of Gulfport all her life. She married John Bruner Kates on June 19, 1948. Mrs. Kates was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Eugenia was preceded in death by her husband, Bruner Kates, her parents Louis Cuendet Sr. and Myrtle (Bush) Cuendet; her brother, Louis Cuendet, Jr.; two sisters, Louise Cuendet and Dorothy Wicktom; and a grandson, John Ditmore.
She is survived by her children, Peggy Evans and her husband James of Michigan, Linda Hughes of Gulfport, Boyce (B.B.) Kates and his wife Tammie of Saucier, Jane Simmons of Gulfport, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd. Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Wilkerson Cemetery in LaRue, MS.
