Mr. Eugene A. """"Gene"""" Schultz, age 84, of Gulfport, MS, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2010.
He was born on February 26, 1925, to parents, Albert and Freida Selig Schultz. He was a native of Downers Grove, IL, and came to live on the Gulf Coast as an insurance adjuster after Hurricane Camille. Gene was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, where he remained active in both the Men's Club and Sassy Seniors until his health prevented him from doing so. Mr. Schultz was an avid fisherman and was able to do so through the help of his good friend, Buford Necaise. He was an excellent cook, as many can attest to, and he loved to garden. His fall garden is still growing vegetables today. He was a loving and caring person to all who he knew. He adored his wife, Betty, with whom he just celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on December 15th. He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII, from which he was medically discharged.
Mr. Schultz was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Freida Schultz; first wife, Dorothy Jones Schultz; sisters, Irma Jean Tunnell and Marguerite Sinderson; son, Russell E. Schultz; and great-grandson, Dallas Isaac Pierson.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his beloved wife, Betty Sue Schultz; children, Sara Waby (Tom) of Ashland, WI, Chris Schultz (Sue) of Atlanta, GA, Dennis Schultz (Pam) of Oshkosh, WI; Steffan Cress (Sandy) of Tampa, FL, Eric Cress (Pam) of Des Moines, IA, and Karen Gouin (Robert) of Gulfport, MS; sixteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He also leaves a host of friends, too many to list, but particularly those from his church family at the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, located at 2301 15th Street, where family and friends may visit from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
