Ethel Philip

Ethel L. Philip, 84, of Diamondhead, passed away from this earth on October 17, 2007 in Diamondhead.
Mrs. Philip was born on June 30, 1923 to Charles W. Lund and Amelia J. Lund and raised in central Michigan where she began her work career in a munitions factory during WWII. After the war, she moved to New York City where she worked as a night club performer and a fashion model appearing on the cover of several fashion magazines. In 1946, while visiting in Washington, D.C., she met and married her husband of fifty years, James S. Philip, II. Residing in Waldorf, MD for the next thirty-seven years, she raised her son, attended George Washington University, and worked as a Cartographic Engraver at the Naval Oceanographic Office earning many citations and awards.
Mrs. Philip moved to Diamondhead with her husband in 1987. She was an active member for many years of the Diamondhead Newcomers Club, the Diamondhead Woman's Club, the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Diamondhead, the Diamondhead Garden Club, the Diamondhead Art Association, and the Diamondhead Community Church. She was a member of the Krewe of Diamondhead and the Krewe of Selene.
She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, but is survived by her son, James S. Philip, III; granddaughter, Tara Philip; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Dusty Rhodes, Evelyn and Henry Kibler, charlotte and Jerry Reshew, and Trinna and Bill Miller; and various nieces and nephews.
The family request that any memorial donations be made to the Diamondhead S.P.C.A., 7630 Fairway Drive, Diamondhead, MS 39525.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Diamondhead Community Church with Reverend Chas Jones officiating. Family will be greeting friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2 p.m. There will be a gathering in the fellowship hall after services. The RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Rd. Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
