Estella Johnson Drevar passed away on Friday, May 6, 2011, just 7 days prior to her 100th birthday. Her funeral will be held on her birthday May 13, 2011.
She was a most beloved mother of Earl James (Jim) Brownlee and his wife Judith Guedry of Biloxi; and step-mother of Miriam Drevar Lorio of Metairie, LA.
Estella was preceded in death by her two infant sons, her mother and father, Ella Waddington Johnson and Alexander Bernard Johnson; her husband of more than 50 years, John G. Drevar; her two sisters, Mary Margaret ""Tut"" Abbley and Irma G. Johnson and her brother Frank Johnson.
""Mom"" was a beloved grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother of: Robin B. Smith, Rebecca B. Galiano, Stephen J. (Kathy) Brownlee, Jack Brownlee, Ian Murphy, Corey Watkins, Shae Galiano, Madison Galiano, Skylir Watkins, Ryan Cambre (Rosie), Aryn Cambre, Lisa Lorio, Gina (Mike) Palermo, Joey (Ellen) Lorio and Trent Lorio all of LA, MS, and CA.
Estella was born May 13, 1911 in Corona, New Mexico. After the death of her father, in Chicago, her mother moved with the children to Pass Christian in 1920. Estella graduated Pass Christian High in 1929 as Valedictorian then went to Harrison-Stone-Jackson Jr. College and graduate in 1931 also as class Valedictorian.
In 1932 She married Earl J. Brownlee, Sr. and they divorced in 1947.
She married John G. Drevar in 1950. She and John lived in New Orleans, El Paso, TX, Omaha, Nebraska, and Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Upon retiring they moved to Delisle.
Estella was ""Life Master Flower Show Judge"" and Life American Rose Society Judge."" She received the Paul Harris Fellow from the rotary club in Pass Christian and was awarded citizen of the year in 1991.
She was a member and president of the Pass Christian garden Club, The Hattiesburg Rose Society, The El Paso, Texas, Scottsdale Garden Club, and the El Paso Council of Garden Clubs. She was a member of the Gulf Coast Rose Society and the Gulf Coast Council of Clubs.
Estella was also a member of the International Porcelain Art Teachers Organization teaching porcelain art over 35 years.
She became the frist ""Life Member"" of the Newcomers Club.
The family wishes to thank Gulf Coast Hospice, especially her longtime nurse Roseanne and her wonderful aide Linda Rice. They laughed a lot and had a great friendship. We could not have cared for her without Linda's help and affection for the year and a half that she was in hospice care.
The funeral service will be Friday, May 13, 2011, at 12:00 Noon at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Rd., Pass Christian. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery, Pass Christian.
Prayers will be read by Ms. Joan Cooper of the Christian Science Church on Dedeaux Rd.
Memorial comments may be expressed by anyone who wishes to do so at the service.
