Ernestine M. Landry, age 81, and a resident of Gulfport, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2007, in Gulfport.
Mrs. Landry, a Gulfport resident since 1972, was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. While at St. Joseph's, she was a member of the Legion of Mary, former Eucharistic Minister, the St. Joseph Alter Society, and church choir. Before moving to Gulfport, Mrs. Landry was Past President of the local National Council of Catholic Women, President of the Clarksdale Home Extension Club, the St. Elizabeth's Altar Society, and church choir. Always active with her children, she was a local leader with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, 4-H Club, and St. Elizabeth's PTA. She was also a host mother for Holland exchange students. We feel that her greatest achievement was her involvement with her children and the unconditional love she gave to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. All will miss her greatly.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Willie Mae Spears Love, and a son, Derril Cannon.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Mr. Ray Landry of Gulfport; children, Debbie Fortenberry of Vancleave and her husband, Roy, Marcella Spinnato of Gulfport, Cathy Quinn of Gulfport, Susan Powell of Brandon, MS and her companion, Jim Hammons, Joseph Landry of Gulfport and his wife, Mary Ellen, and Peter John Landry of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and three expected great grandchildren.
