Ernest McCabe

October 27, 1921 — December 10, 2020

Gulfport

Ernest L. McCabe, age 99, passed away on December, 10, 2020.
The son of Ernest James McCabe and Margaret Allen, he was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Brian McCabe, his daughter, Sharon McCabe, his granddaughter, Amity McCabe and his sister, Vera Fernald.
Ernest is survived by his wife of 75 years, Constance Hall McCabe; sons, Gary McCabe (Mary), Bruce McCabe (Melanie) and Andrew McCabe; daughter, Kathryn Boulware (Dixon); daughter-in –law, Mary Ellen McCabe; sisters, Thelma Hock and Carolyn Braden; brother, Alfred Kellogg; grandchildren, Matthew McCabe (Holly), Tyler McCabe (Maegen), Caitlin Boulware, Patrick Boulware, Ryan McCabe and Alex McCabe; and his great-grandchildren, Penn McCabe and Collins McCabe.
He loved his wife and children, but in his long life he was more than a husband and father. He grew up on the Gulf Coast and survived the Great Depression, an event that had a lasting effect on his life. He volunteered in World War II, serving on the USS Mosley, and he was a proud, patriotic American. He was a volunteer police officer, a salesman at Sears, a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, a volunteer poll worker, a gardener, and a good neighbor to those who needed his skills as a handyman. He built his first home in the Bayou View community with the help of his wife and lived in the same neighborhood for almost 70 years.
Due to COVID-19 concerns a memorial service will be held at a later date. The family welcomes the thoughts and prayers of their friends and loved ones during this time of loss.
