Emily Smith

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Emily Smith on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the age of 78. Emily was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and a woman of deep faith who lived her life with patience, kindness, and unwavering grace.

Emily’s radiant smile and compassionate heart touched everyone who knew her. She was not only a source of love and support for her family but also a faithful servant of God. Her life reflected the virtues of a godly woman—humility, selflessness, and a strong commitment to caring for others. She walked through life with a heart full of faith, always showing love, grace, and forgiveness to those around her.

Emily’s family was the center of her world, and her greatest joy was sharing her home and heart with those she loved. She embodied the role of caregiver, always putting others before herself. Her unwavering faith guided her actions, whether it was offering a prayer, a word of encouragement, or a comforting presence in times of need.

Emily had a special gift for feeding not only the soul but also those around her through her love of cooking and sharing meals. Her home was always filled with the warmth of food and fellowship, and she took great joy in nourishing the bodies and spirits of her loved ones. Whether preparing a meal for her family or providing comfort food to a friend in need, Emily’s generosity was a reflection of her caring nature and her Christ-like compassion.

Emily’s gentle and loving spirit was a gift to all, and her faith sustained her through life’s trials. Though we are heartbroken by her passing, we rejoice in knowing that she is now resting in the arms of the Lord, at peace and surrounded by His eternal love.

Emily was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lillian Lassabe Allen; her brothers, William “Buddy” Allen and Nathan Allen; her sisters, Doris Dwyer, Susie Neathery, Nona Lee Allen, Mary Cockrell, Myra Morris and Agnes Durel; and her infant son, Steven Burton Smith.

Emily is survived by her husband of 60 years, John M. Smith of Long Beach; her sons, John Wayne Smith and Darvin Smith (Linda); her siblings, Kate Kilpatrick and Freddie Allen (Jackie); her grandchildren, Amber Allen (Lance), Elisha Woodcock and Joseph Woodcock, Jr. (Samantha); her great-grandchildren, Tyler Myers (Emily), Katelyn Myers, Joseph Scott Woodcock III, Kyleigh Allen, Kinsey Allen, Kane Allen, Bryce Woodcock and Kalysta Woodcock; her great-great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Myers and Nevaeh Myers; and other loving family members, including Jesse Hatton and numerous nieces and nephews.
