Mrs. Elsie Peterson Gilbert, age 88, resident of DeLisle, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2009, peacefully with her family at her side.
Mrs. Gilbert was born in the Pineville Community to the late Jostlin Joseph and Mary Cordelia Dedeaux Necaise. She was a lifelong resident of Harrison County and was a homemaker. Mrs. Gilbert enjoyed taking care of her home and family and loved to go shopping. She was a parishioner at St. Stephens Catholic Church in DeLisle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clarence Peterson; second husband, Julius Gilbert; brothers, Julian, George, and Sidney Necaise; sister, Rose Bella Cuevas; grandchild, Robert Earl Robbins; great grandchild, Cameron Bryce Cuevas; and her sons-in-law, Everett Cuevas and Billy Jenkins.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Cuevas of DeLisle and Catheleen Scarborough of DeLisle and her husband Rosco; stepchildren, Lurline Jenkins of Biloxi, Joyce Whitfield of Bay St. Louis and her husband Bill, Carolyn Messer of Gulfport and her husband Bob, Julius Gilbert, Jr. of FL and his wife Linda, and Larry Gilbert of Gulfport; brother, Leroy """"Nip"""" Necaise of DeLisle and his wife Patricia; 22 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 33 great-great grandchildren, 1 great-great-great grandchild, including a special granddaughter and caregiver, Tracy Scarborough.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the following for their love and care, Regina Scarborough, Donna Mae Cuevas, Clara Sydow, Gloria Ladner, Katie Henderson, and Deaconess Hospice.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Road, where friends may call from 6-10 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 11 a.m. going to St. Stephen's Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the procession leaving the funeral home. Burial will follow at New DeLisle Cemetery.
