Elizabeth "Betty" Travis Whidbee, age 74, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Al Whidbee; her parents, Daniel E. Travis Sr. and Betty McWhirter Travis; her grandparents, William E. McWhirter and Beatrice Crane McWhirter and Hardy Travis and Anges Bigler Travis Beans; her brothers, Daniel E. Travis Jr., and Barry N. Travis; and her sister, Patricia Travis Smith.
Betty is survived by her brother, William E. Travis; her eight nieces and nephews, Gerald Smith Jr., Betty Smith Fallas, Timothy Smith, Michael Smith, Donna Smith Herbert, Brandi Travis Clark, Brigitte Travis and Deana Travis Smith; thirteen great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great nieces and nephews.
Betty entered the Dominican Convent at the age of 15, and was known in the religious community as Sister Mary Daniel O.P. Betty left the religious community in the seventies and continued her career as an educator in the Jefferson Parish School System. She met and married Al Whidbee in the seventies and upon retiring they moved to Diamondhead, MS. She took on a new position as an instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in the Adult Education Program and the Harrison County Adult Detention Center.
A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Pass Christian with a visitation for family and friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private burial will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Columbia, MS.
