Elizabeth Ann Jasper, age 75, of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019.
Written by a dear friend:
In her early years, she had studied poetry with Wendell Berry then held down some fascinating jobs: reported the 68 Democratic Convention alongside Hunter Thompson, arranged concert events for Elvis, Fats Domino....and William Shatner, and been close friends with the Dalai Lama's brother, having dinner with HH himself a few times. I was unsurprised when she told me of meeting Johnny Depp at Hunter's memorial service. She knew true love--with Mr. Clyde--and was a mother to two children she adored, grandchildren she doted on, and was a recent great-grandmother--a role she truly enjoyed.
She loved her family deeply and her friends well; I'm proof of that. She certainly gave me more good advice through the years than just about anyone I ever met--and I tried to do the same for her.
If I ever met a person who lived life with more gusto and passion, I don't know it. We didn't agree on everything...heck, we disagreed on religion and politics...the two big things, but we sure agreed the other was a pretty special person. And we both had an abiding interest in the truly deep things, the reality behind the shadows of the transitory world.
I'll miss her more than anyone but her will ever know. I'm just glad my last words she heard were to let her know I loved her.
Go in peace my friend, and may your journey through the bardo be an easy one.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Jasper; and her parents, Otho and Louetta Ward.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Havlicek (Paul); son, James G. Williams; grandchildren, Ben Waldridge (Chelsea), Hamish Havlicek, Casiah Williams, and Gwyneth Williams; and three great grandsons, Michael, Link, and Benjamin, Jr.
