Elizabeth Brant Davenport, known to many as Liz, was a native of Roseland, LA. She was a Gulfport resident for most of her life and later in life she moved with her daughter, Bonnie, to Saucier.
Liz was a great entrepreneur of her time. She began her career as a seamstress for Gayfers Department Store, learning her trade. Having this knowledge, she then branched out with her own small business making custom draperies. Her husband, James Davenport, later joined the business and they branched out into blinds and many other custom window treatments. She and James worked together for 35 years. Their business quickly became a family business with the additional workforce of their son Jerry and his wife Vandy. Together they provided beautiful window treatments to many homes and businesses across the MS Gulf Coast.
Liz loved gardening and her flower beds were always amazing! Her favorite time of the day was coffee time with her family on the porch. Liz was also a fabulous cook. She loved the holidays cooking with and for everyone. Her biscuits were hands down the best on the coast. This passion she had for gardening, cooking and coffee was many things she generously passed down to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
To best describe our Maw Maw Lizzie, she was a living example of the following bible verse... 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. This chapter of Corinthians is addressing themes of integrity, and of the heart. Paul is saying that we need to use love as the driving characteristic of what motivates our actions. Actions without love, are meaningless. Maw Maw Lizzie did all things with unconditional love and this is the greatest gift she gave to us all.
