Elena Jean Jennings Sanders, a former resident of Gulfport, MS, and more recently of Baton Rouge, LA, died Saturday, December 22, 2007 in Baton Rouge. She was 73, born March 7, 1934, in Alexandria, LA. She is survived by her daughter, Sherill G. Hudson and husband Randy, of Biloxi, MS; sons, Brett Paul Gautreaux and Dwight Earl Sanders, of Baton Rouge; a granddaughter, Dixie Reese Martino, her husband Patrick, and great-granddaughter, Hope Elizabeth of Biloxi; a grandson, Brett Frank Hudson of Biloxi; two sisters, Earline Jo Smith and Diane Walker and husband Kelso, all of Baton Rouge; and many nephews and nieces. She is also survived by her beloved grand dog, Tivoli. She was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Lee Gautreaux; her parents, Earl P. and Alice M. Jennings; and brother-in-law, Bilwood Smith.
She retired from South Central Bell and the Harrison County School for Exceptional Children, both in Gulfport. A graduate of Baton Rouge High School, she loved sharing her talent for cooking with her family and friends. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:30 p.m., followed by a memorial service, on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS, 39503. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Gulfport. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society and St. Jude's.
