Eldon Joseph Babuchna, born and raised in Biloxi, MS., passed away on November 4, 2024, at his Latimer home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 80 years old.
A long-time resident of the Latimer community, Eldon, like many young men of the coast, started his working career working on shrimp boats and eventually ended up at Ingall’s Shipyard where he worked for 13 years. Later, he began to work for independent pipe construction companies and then oil companies in Alaska which he really enjoyed. He loved tinkering with things, although they rarely went back together the same way. He was an avid card player, enjoying many happy hours playing with his sisters, Lenda and Lana, and his cousins, Ray King, Pat King Morton, Judy King, and his friend Janice Daams. He also enjoyed hunting for many years with his long-time best friend, Jimmy Fayard. Hanging out at Harry Pelous's Barbershop, and Arthur Quave’s doing crab boils brought him great joy as well.
Eldon was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Latimer, and a frequent and a much-loved guest at his daughter’s church, Bethel Hill Baptist in Latimer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma (Boney) Babuchna; his brother, John Babuchna and his wife Rose; his sisters, Mary Agnes Desrosiers and her husband Norman, Brenda Raynor and her husband Robert; his brother-in-law, Thomas Winterstein and sister-in-law, Charlotte Babuchna.
Left behind to cherish many wonderful memories are his loving wife of 60 years, Mary (Fayard) Babuchna; and his only child, his daughter, Tracy Babuchna MacDonald and her husband Phillip “P.J.” MacDonald; his brother, Gerald and his wife Mary Babuchna his twin brother, Weldon and his wife Sandra Babuchna, his brother, Harrell Babuchna; his sisters, Lenda Winterstein, Lana Martin and her husband Jeff, and Pam Wilkerson and her husband James; and his one only granddaughter who he adored, Kara MacDonald; brother-in-law, Homer “Bo” Fayard, Jr., sister-in-laws, Margaret Boney and Barbara Parker, a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and dear friends.
