Elaine Holloway Foy, age 91, and a resident of Gulfport, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, in Gulfport, MS.
She was born March 27, 1917, in Kincaid, KS, to Ira S. Holloway and Bessie Lewis
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rev. B. Aaron Foy, and her brother Claire Holloway.
She is survived by her two sons: David Foy (Patricia) of Westlake Village, CA, and Dale Foy (Susan) of Long Beach, MS. Also surviving are: her sister, Mary Katherine Holloway Jorden, of Temecula, CA; and two brothers, Dale Holloway of Washington, D.C., and Raymond Holloway of Novato, CA. She is also survived by: three grandsons, Patrick, Daniel, and Benjamin Foy; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Sommers, Laura Knutson, and Julie Fortenberry; and two great-granddaughters, Kylie Knutson and Finley Sommers.
Mrs. Foy was a registered nurse, having graduated from the New Orleans Baptist Hospital Nursing Program. Beginning as an operating room nurse at Baptist Hospital in New Orleans after completing nursing training there, she served in a variety of roles over the course of her nursing career. Throughout her life she was adept at balancing her roles as a ministeraÌ‚â‚â„¢s wife, a mother of two sons, and a nursing professional. While living in Ruston, LA, she worked part-time at the Thomas-Kendall Clinic. While living in Pass Christian, MS, she served as the instructor for the licensed practical nursing course at Hancock General Hospital in Bay St. Louis. She also served as a shift supervisor at the England Community Hospital in England, AR. After retirement she continued to apply her nursing skills as primary care-giver for her husband who suffered from ParkinsonaÌ‚â‚â„¢s Disease and stroke in his last years.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2008, from 7 until 9 PM at The RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 12280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.
