Edwina Anderson

Edwina Lassiter Anderson, age 93, of Gulfport, passed away on October 25, 2011.
Mrs. Anderson was born on July 4, 1918 in Hattiesburg, MS. She attended Gulfport schools and was a graduate of Gulf Park College for Women in Long Beach, MS, and Bowling Green Business University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
She served many years as secretary to the Mississippi Public Safety Commissioner in Jackson, MS. During her years of travel in the military she was nicknamed ""Magnolia"" and ""Bloom"" because of her outspoken adoration for her beloved state of Mississippi. Her other great loves were music, sports and politics. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother and adored her grandchildren. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Gulfport.
Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband Lt. Col. Claude C. Anderson to whom she was married 49 years; her father, Joseph Woodie Lassiter; mother, Mary Backus Lassiter; step-mother, Sue M. Lassiter and brother, Woodie Backus Lassiter.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl A. Banks of Gulfport and Kay A. Wood (Richard) of Birmingham, AL; and grandchildren, Brent Smith of Fayetteville, GA, Mary Lassiter Wood, Lauren Taylor Wood and Wade Wood, all of Birmingham, AL.
Graveside services will be held at Floral Hills Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011.
