Edwin A. Mauterer Jr., age 88, of Diamondhead, MS passed away on May 24,2012. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Grace Musmeci Mauterer and his son Edwin A. Mauterer III and wife Therese. He is also survived by one sister, Joan Mauterer Bernard of Metairie, LA. Edwin was the son of the late Edwin A. Mauterer Sr. and Elizabeth Giro Mauterer. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Mauterer, and two brothers Gerard Mauterer and William Mauterer.
Edwin was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Diamondhead MS for the last 26 years. He served in the US Navy during World War II in the South Pacific as a Torpedoman's Mate and Deep Sea Diver. After his discharge from the Navy, he worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad for 44 years. He was also a New Orleans Recreation Department (NORD) playground supervisor for 20 years. He enjoyed playing baseball. He coached little league football and St. Raphael's Girl's CYO Indoorball teams. His Indoorball teams won 10 City of New Orleans Championships And one Louisiana State Championship. He, also, was a Louisiana High School Football Referee for 20 years. After retiring and moving to Diamondhead, he became an avid golfer playing until he was 87 years old.
He was a member of The Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Diamondhead. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Most Holy Trinity Church, Kiln-DeLisle Rd. Pass Christian MS or St. Joseph's Hospice, 722 West Canal St., Picayune MS.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Saturday, May 26, 2012, at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where friends may visit from 10 - 11 am.
Interment will be in Biloxi National Cemetery.
