Edward “Eddie” Hayes Taquino, of Gulfport, went to be with God on September 8, 2022, at the age of 69.
Eddie was extremely devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After a long spiritual hunger in his later adult years, Eddie was received into the Catholic Church at Easter of 2017. The fire in him by the Holy Spirit never dimmed, and actively lived his faith life with gusto and an intense love for Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. He was a beloved and intentional disciple of Christ at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Gulfport and was instrumental in bringing others to the Christian faith. He will be deeply missed by all of his loving friends and family there.
Eddie worked at Struther’s Industries for 32 years, then on to Trinity Yachts. Eddie never met a stranger. A storyteller, telling jokes and doing impressions! He loved sailing, paddle boarding and photography. He loved to take pictures of the kite surfers in front of Kelly Avenue. He was an NFL and college football fan. Eddie “T”, as he was known, was a long-time member of the 24th Avenue A.A. fellowship.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 22nd at St. John Catholic Church in Gulfport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. James Cemetery in Gulfport.
A special thank you to Dr. Bosarge and all the nurses in ICU at Memorial Hospital, where he received excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Catholic charities.
