Edward "Snowball" F. McKenna, Jr, age 93, of Long Beach, passed away on July 11, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Velma McKenna; his parents, Edward F. McKenna, Sr. and Louise Netz McKenna; a brother, George McKenna, a sister, Mary Donnellon, and a grandson, Blake McKenna.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Deidre “Dee” McKenna; his children, David (Annette) McKenna, Ronnie McKenna (Lori Blanchard), Mary Carter, and Edward F. (Tammy) McKenna, III; his grandchildren, David (Misty) McKenna, Shannon (James) Crain, Marlo Stewart, and Brandon (Carmen) McKenna, Raymond McKenna, Kristen (Frankie) Daley, Jennifer Hill (Ethan Lee), Ethan Cole (Courtney) Carter, and Amanda McKenna; his great-grandchildren, Gage McKenna, Anthony McKenna, Dalton Degeneffe, Hudson Thomas, Donovan Marin, David McKenna, Chloe McKenna, Bryce McKenna, Penelope McKenna, Raven McKenna, Conner Daley, Gatlon Hill, Renly Hill, and Marley Blake Dicks; a great-great-grandchild, Rylan McKenna; his devoted employees at Snowball’s, Helena Melear, Lester Jarrell, Kent Williams, and Tiger; and his current “furbabies” adopted from the South MS Humane Society, “Molly” and “Madison” aka “Little Girl,” and numerous friends and colleagues.
“Snowball” served 43 years in the U.S. Army and the MS Army National Guard during the Korean War and later retired as Sergeant First Class. For 71 years, he was the owner/operator of Snowball’s Service Station on Railroad Street, and he also retired from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Process Division.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials be made to the Humane Society of South MS, 2615 25th Ave, Gulfport, MS 39501, where they adopted many furbabies or to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be on Saturday, July 15, 2023, from 9 - 11 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 E Beach Blvd, Long Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am in the church. Interment will be in Live Oak Cemetery.
