Edward Cortlandt Snow, Jr., a true southern gentleman, died on Thursday, January 18, 2007 in Sandy Hook, MS.
Mr. Snow was a resident of Kiln and formerly of Diamondhead. He was born on May 31, 1919 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Ed served 3 years in the US Navy during WWII as a navigator by stars across the Atlantic. He joined the Navy while working for Boeing in California. Although he was a piolt, the Navy had no openings at that time. After WWII was over, he returned to Las Cruces and began work at White Sands Missle Test Site. While there he met and helped Dr. Springer, a famous space authority, and helped him test the first rocket into space where they could see California. Later Ed was transferred to Huntsville, AL where he met and worked with Dr. Von Braun, a German rocket epert captured during WWII. Ed then moved to Pearlington and worked at Stennis on the first man on the moon program. He moved to Diamondhead and continued to work at Stennis until June 30, 1972 when he retired from civil service as an aeronautical engineer.
Ed was very active in the Boater's Association with his boat, """"The Snowball"""" and his dingy, """"The Snowflake"""". He was king of the Krewe of Kamehameha in 1978 in Diamondhead and he was a member of St. Thomas the Episcopal Church also in Diamondhead. Ed had a wonderful personality and he was loved by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bessie, his only brother William, his only son James, and his first wife, Ida Mae.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margie; his daughters, Carolyn (Jack) Sawyer of Pineville, LA, Cheney """"Betty"""" (Phil) Milholland of Boise, ID and Priscilla Snow of San Diego, CA; his stepchildren, Miguel (Kelly) Cortez of Berkeley Lake, GA, Christine Webb of Hoover, AL, Deborah (Randall) Hargrave and Regina Cortez all of Kiln; 8 grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 1:30pm at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the wonderful personal care facility that took such great care of Mr. Snow during his stay there due to Alzheimers: Sandy Hook Estate, 1403 Highway 35 South, Sandy Hook, MS 39478.
