Edna "Joyce" Biancuzzo (Kittrell) 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in her home in Ocean Springs, Mississippi on January 20, 2023. Joyce was born in Vernal Mississippi on August 3, 1933, to Joseph David Kittrell and Mary Katherine Brewer.
Joyce lived a life of service. After graduating from Leaksville High School, Joyce served in the United States Air Force, active and reserve, and retired as a Senior Master Sergeant. During the Vietnam War, she traveled with Bob Hope’s USO tour. After her active-duty service, she worked for thirty years for Alabama Senators John Sparkman and Howell Heflin in Washington, DC., handling all correspondence and requests for help from military personnel and veterans. During this time in her life, she also served as the military liaison between the U.S. Senate and the Pentagon. She met the love of her life Anthony Biancuzzo in 1977 and they laughed their way through 28 years of traveling, playing golf and dropping a few coins in a slot machine. In 2005 they moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi to be closer to family and shortly thereafter Tony passed away.
An avid collector of all things, including people, Joyce rarely sat still and if she did – she was on the phone. Family and friends will miss her very short and frequent phone calls. An avid golfer for many years, Joyce also enjoyed gardening and her yard was a showplace of hundreds of plants and flowers that she transformed into a stunning Christmas display each December.
She was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Murphree, Lois Koontz, Eleanor Worthington and brothers Joseph David Kittrell, Jr., Lamar Kittrell, Larue Kittrell and John Neal Kittrell.
She is survived by sisters Betty Jo Kittrell and Patsy Kay White. Joyce’s generous and gregarious spirit lives on in numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Joyce requested no service or celebration of her life. Joyce will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, next to her beloved Tony. The family asks that remembrance and honoring of this remarkable woman be demonstrated via donations to the charity of your choice. The Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. in West Jackson County is proudly serving the family.
