Edith Gaines

Edith Gaines, 94 of Saucier passed away on December 18, 2024 at the Driftwood Nursing Facility. She was born on March 11, 1930 in Walker County, Alabama to the late David & Exer Alexander. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years Mack Gaines; grandson, Michael Bond; son in law, Delma Bond; brothers, Noah Alexander, Thirl Alexander, Franklin Alexander, Floyd Alexander, Otto Alexander, and Charles Alexander; sisters, Daphney Tubbs, Ila Ingle, and Amy Gaines.

Edith was born in Alabama and was one of 11 children. In Alabama this is where she met her sweetheart, Mack Gaines, and she was married at the age of 15 in 1945. In 1950 the family moved to Saucier, Mississippi, and made Mississippi their home. Besides being a loving and caring wife and mother, Edith was at one time the Secretary at the Saucier School. One of the things that Edith loved to do was to sew clothing. Edith was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to so many. Her grandchildren meant everything to her and she enjoyed babysitting and being with them. Edith’s legacy lives on in all of us, and her 94 years here on earth were a blessing to all of us. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Edith is survived by her loving daughters, Martha Bond of Saucier, and Wanda (Joe) Melvin of Gulfport; grandchildren, Chris Bond of Saucier, and Blake (Samantha) Melvin of Gulfport, Ginger Hobbs of Georgetown, TX and Melissa McDaniel of Montgomery, AL. Edith also leaves behind to cherish her memory 9 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024 from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport (11280 Three Rivers Roads, Gulfport). Her Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024 at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, Gulfport with burial to follow at Saucier Cemetery.
