Edith (Edye) Ellen Manka

 Edith (Edye) Ellen Manka, age 90, lost her battle with COPD on 15 August 2024. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Clarence (Joe) Manka of Biloxi, MS; her parents, John and Monica Zettle; and her younger sister, Deborah Kampourgiannis, all of Chicago, IL.

 She is survived by her two sisters, Barbara Ambrosino and Lana Powers, of Chicago, IL., and her brother, Frank Zettle (Lori Angus) of Ft. Myers, FL; her son Mark S. Peterson (Nancy Brown-Peterson) of Ocean Springs, MS; her grandson Christopher R. Peterson (Sunishka Thakur) of Austin, TX, her stepson, Ken Manka of Blairsville, GA and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews as well as her good friend and caregiver, Wendy Foster of Gulfport, MS 

 She and her husband moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast from the Chicagoland area in 2014 to be closer to her son’s family. She was very happy at Brookdale Biloxi for the last four years of her life, and both she and her family appreciated the wonderful care she got from St. Joseph’s Hospice.

 Edye worked as a bookkeeper for a wide range of companies for many years, but her favorite jobs were as a million-dollar Relator and later the owner of a delicatessen. Edye was an extremely talented cook and enjoyed decorating her home and yard. She loved dancing and participated in ballroom dancing contests when she was young. She always had cats and dogs and spoiled all of them terribly! 

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the 1:00 p.m. Celebration of Life service begins at the Riemann Family Funeral Home located at 13872 Lemoyne Blvd., Biloxi, in West Jackson County.  A procession to Biloxi National Cemetery will leave the funeral home promptly at 1:45 p.m. for a 2:30 interment.
