Edith Barefield

Edith Pottien Barefield, age 89 of Gulfport, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.

She was born in Berlin, Germany on February 19, 1932. Most of her memories as a child were of the devastation of the “Hitler Regime” and the war.  Edith was a long-time resident of Ozark, AL., until health conditions brought her to Gulfport, MS in 2017, where she resided with family until her passing.

Edith is survived by her children, Jesse E. Pinner, Jr., and Ruth Solomon (Mitchell), and her grandchildren, Ashlyn Pinner, Grant Pinner, Joshua Solomon, Sarah Solomon, Mitchell Solomon, and Victoria Solomon.

Edith came to the United States with her U.S. Military husband, Jesse Pinner, in 1963, and made Dale County, AL her home. Some remember Edith for her work at the Judy Bond and White Knight Manufacturing company in Ozark. In the mid 1970’s, she and her husband opened “Court Square Restaurant” in downtown Ozark, where the local businessmen and residents enjoyed breakfast, lunch, or her special German dinners. Others will remember working with Edith at West Point Pepperell in Abbeville until she retired in the late 1990’s. She was known for her hard work and dedication.

She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, music, cooking and spending time in the fellowship at the senior center in Ozark. She had a deep love for animals and nature. She loved her family and was very proud of each of her children and grandchildren. Edith dedicated her life to living by her strong Christian faith and her Bible.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

The family will hold a celebration of life memorial at the family home in Gulfport, on February 19, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Following a short memorial service, the family will release bouquets of balloons in her honor. We ask that anyone who would like to participate, no matter where they are, release a balloon or bouquet of balloons up to heaven in her memory and honor on the 19th of February.
