Edgar Poe Symmes, Jr., age  99, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at home with family.
Ed was born in Tampa, FL.  His Father was a manager of Dun & Bradstreet in Tampa until the depression, and his Mother was a school teacher.  He had three sisters.  Ed lived on Tampa Bay where he learned his love of fishing.  He proudly served his country in the US Marines during WWII, and afterwards was a Manager at Sears & Roebuck Co for 25 years.  He married Betty Mote, who he met at a boarding house in Gulfport, MS, in 1947.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Symmes; his son, Edgar Poe Symmes III;, his granddaughter, Courtenay Symmes; his grandson, Wesley McCabe;  and his son in law, Paul (Rick) Lambert.
Ed is survived by his daughters, Jill Stewart and Candice Lambert; his son , Bryce Symmes;  Fifteen grandchildren and Twenty-Seven great grandchildren:  Jennifer Stewart;  Will Symmes (Katy) Hannah and Mallory;  Cowles Symmes (Mary Beth) Ford, Mary Frances and Yates;  Brandy Hyde (Eric) Wesley, Elsie and Jeffrey;  BJ Anderson (Sam) Brodie and Trevor;  Elizabeth Clark (Andy) Emily, Chaney, Cooper and Carter;  Tim McCabe (Michelle)  Oliver;   Christen Blaine (David) Cade, Brooks, Tate, and Piers;   Emily Harden (Ted) Laney and Teddi;  Jesse Anderson (Annalisa) Ella and Violet;  Christopher Symmes,  Rev. Colten Symmes,  Nicole Symmes, Levi;  Erin Dornan (Patrick) Beth Claire, and Paul;  Carlin Symmes, and a borrowed family member,  Fisher Carothers ("woof").
Ed loved his family, friends and his lifelong journeys of fishing with friends.  He cherished his relationship with his nephew, Allen Reed, Cathy and Sarah.  He looked forward to all his visits of storytelling, fishing, and eating out with Porter and Leroy Pucheu and Paul Terrell.  Ed will miss the Fish Tales at his friend, Don Park's Palace Grill.
The Family gives special thanks to Southern Care, the Veteran's Administration Services, and dear Robert Collier.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Gulfport, with a visitation from 11:00 AM until the service.  Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
