Edgar Joseph "Pat" Patterson, Jr., age 72 of Long Beach was born on Dec. 13, 1945 in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away on Aug. 7, 2018 in Gulfport, Mississippi. Pat spent a good part of his youth growing up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Pat graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi and later earned his Master's in Aeronautical Science from Embry- Riddle University. He served two years in the United States Navy and had a twenty year career as an officer in the United States Air Force. He was very patriotic and considered it an honor to serve his country. After retiring from the Air Force, Pat became a sixth grade teacher at Henry Miller School in Los Banos, California for ten years. The next eight years were spent in administration at Los Banos Elementary School. He always believed in the students and was a tremendous mentor to students and teachers alike.
Pat was a sailor at heart. He loved every aspect of the sea from sailing, fishing, scuba diving, to finding "treasures" along the beach. Pat was an animal lover and his cocker spaniels held a special place in his heart. Pat never knew a stranger. He made an impression on so many people.
Pat was preceded in death by his father, Edgar J. Patterson, Sr.; and his mother, Eileen Casey Patterson.
Pat is survived by wife, Karen Patterson; children, Elizabeth Patterson (Bill Turner), Kelly McGuffee (Kevin), John Patrick Patterson (Bonnie); sister, Eileen Duckworth (Richard); sister-in law, Gail Waring (Mike Goodspeed); brother-in-law, Bob Waring (Patty); grandchildren, Natalie, Jack, Mary Hayden, and Reese; nephews, David and Patrick Duckworth and Jim Waring; niece, Lauren Goodspeed; lifelong friends, Norman McDonald, Scott Lewis; and many more dear relatives and friends.
You will be greatly missed, Captain.
A memorial service is being planned for later in the fall.
