Edda Haas Whaley passed away on March 26th, 2025 at the age of 88.
She is survived by her huband of 60+ years, Warren Paul Whaley Sr. and her children, Heather Whaley Carpenter ( Rusty Carpenter), Warren Paul Whaley Jr. ( Joanna Logan Whaley), Katherine Whaley Warren (Mark E. Warren Sr.); and her six much loved and cherished grandchildren, Emily and Thomas Carpenter; Charlie and Abigail Whaley; Mark “Sonny” and Michael Warren; sister, Dr. Ethel Haas Boagni; nieces and nephews, Thomas, Nancy & Mary Boagni and Randi Whaley Henriques (Steve, Tanya & Tiffany); and dear family friend, Shawn Kohnke (Mignon, Bella & Emily) who was like a son to her, and more loving friends than we can mention.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Edward Rudolph and Ethel Oulliber Haas of Madisonville, LA; and her brother-in-law, Dr. Edward Boagni and nephew Robert Boagni.
Born in Madisonville, LA, she graduated from Covington High School, where she was class Valedictorian. She received a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Loyola University in New Orleans, LA and was certified in Medical Technology by the ASCP. She then attended the John Elliott Blood Bank of Dade County in Miami Florida. She was among the first people in New Orleans to be certified in blood banking. In 1964, she married Warren Paul Whaley Sr. They resided in Metairie LA, until 2000 when they moved to Pass Christian, MS. Edda was a member of the P.C. Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Holy Family Altar Society, Timber Ridge Women’s Club and a member of Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans and the Pass Christian Yacht Club.
She enjoyed reading good books and spending time with her family and friends. She loved children and her door and kitchen were always open to the friends of her children and children of her friends and neighbors. She always made everyone feel welcome and loved. Edda loved helping others and was always willing to do anything for others. She was a devoted, loving wife and mother to many.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Little Sisters of the Poor or Holy Family Parish.
A visitation will be held at 10:00a.m. on Saturday, April 12th with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00a.m. at Holy Family Church in Pass Christian MS. A celebration of her life will be held after the mass. She will buried on Monday, April 14th at her family plot in Madisonville, LA.
