Earl ""Chief"" Oliver, age 70, a life-long resident of Hancock County, passed away on Sunday, January 8, 2012.
Mr. Oliver was owner and operator of Earl's Hideaway for 40 years and he was a painter for 15 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Choctaw Nation of Mississippi, a member of the VFW Post 6285, Kiln and the American Legion Post 139, Bay St. Louis, and he was of the Catholic faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John M. Oliver and Sara F. Oliver; his sister, Ruby; and his brother, August Oliver.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Shirley Oliver; 3 brothers, John Oliver of Los Angeles, Louis Oliver of Bay St. Louis and Charles Oliver of Bay St. Louis; children, Michael (Bernadette) Cuevas, Sandra (Wilborn) Cuevas, Brenda (Ronnie) Ladner and Cynthia (David) Salles; 6 grandsons, Mickey, Bryce, Cody, Michael, Hylan and Landon; special nephew and niece, Charles and Lisa Oliver; and many numerous great-nephews and great-nieces and other loving family members.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Earl's Hideaway, 9207 Harbor Drive, Bay St. Louis. The Prayer Service, officiated by Fr. John Kelly, will follow at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Bayou LaCroix Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Riemann Family Funeral Home, 9113 Kiln DeLisle Road, Pass Christian.
