Earl S. Lee, Jr, age 66, of Gulfport, MS, passed away on March 26, 2009 in Gulfport.
He is survived by his wife, Christina Lee; one son, Jonathan Lee and his wife, Sara, and grandson, Ethan, of San Francisco; two brothers, William E. Lee of Warm Springs, GA and James A. Lee of Seattle, WA; one sister, Virginia Lee Elison of Hot Springs, AR; and aunt, Lenora Irby, and her husband, Sammy, one step son, John Wesley Watson, and his wife, Bernadette, and granddaughter, Nola, of Austin, TX; one stepdaughter, Rachel King, and her husband, Todd, and three grandchildren, Anna Grace, Luke, and Cade, of Ellisville, MS; and his nieces and nephews, Scarlett Herbkersman, Frank Lee, Robert Lee, Julie Lee Gordon, Jamie Gemme, Joseph Lee, Lori Coward, Lee Ann Lee, and Page Neumeyer. Earl will also be remembered for his two beautiful, devoted, and intelligent German Shepherds, Klaus and Sargeant.
A native of Mt. Olive, MS, Mr. Lee gave a lifetime of service to God and the church serving as a Sunday school teacher, lay leader, and choir member. Earl taught English at Gulf Coast Community College, USM, and Ole Miss. He was the first academic counselor for athletics at the University of Mississippi. He served as President of the Mississippi Association of Development Education and as Program Chair of the National Association. In addition, Earl served as Mayor of Mt. Olive for two terms.
Truth, beauty, and spirituality were the values of life for which Earl strived. He desired to achieve the best that he could be and to encourage others to do the same. As a friend, he was loyal. As a husband, he was devoted. As a writer and poet, Earl left to us his impressions and experiences of life. He is missed.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME. 11280 Three Rivers RD, Gulfport.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Olive, MS where family and friends may visit from 11:00 AM until service time. Burial will follow at Mendenhall City Cemetery, Mendenhall, MS.
