Duain Blackwell, age 94, of Long Beach, passed away on May 3, 2021.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra K. Morgan; a grandson, Jacob Morgan; and his parents, Norvell Blackwell and Rhea Blackwell.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Connie Blackwell; his children, Reba Swartz (Charles), Jerry Blackwell (Ruby), Dennis Blackwell (Monica), and Barbara Blackwell; 2 siblings: Sam Blackwell (Penny) and Virginia Porter; a sister-in-law, Janice Hicks; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was a native of Taylorsville, MS and lived most of his life on the coast. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Clinton. He retired for the Sun Herald as the Press Room Manager after 38 years of service. He was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church in Long Beach. Mr. Blackwell was an avid baseball fan and played on the Sun Herald team and was later a coach for the Athletics little league team and served as an umpire for 2 years. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.
Visitation will be on Saturday, May 8, 2021, from 10 - 11 am at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road, Long Beach. A memorial service will be at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to a charity of your choice.
