Dr. James Lamar Baggett, Jr., age 70, passed away on November 22, 2022 in Mobile, AL. He was a longtime resident of Ocean Springs.
He was born in Memphis, TN to James Lamar Baggett, Sr. and Maggabelle Barksdale Baggett. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Mississippi, where he also played first baseman on the Ole Miss Baseball Team. He received his Master’s Degree followed by his PHD in Biology at the University of Southern Mississippi. He taught middle school in Memphis, TN and began teaching at MGCCC, Jackson County Campus in August of 1990. He taught Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Biology and Physics. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, sailing and boating around the MS Gulf Coast. He was a proud family man, a faithful, loving husband, father of two and grandfather of three.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Left behind to cherish is memory include his wife of 30+ years, Karen Gylfe Baggett; two children, Dr. Katherine Baggett of San Francisco, CA, Jonathan Baggett (Haley) of Ocean Springs; three grandchildren, Killian, Meredith and Archer Baggett of Ocean Springs; six sisters, Ann Bright of Huntsville, AL, Betty Keck of Seattle, WA, Jamie Witcher of Knoxville, TN, Thomasine Daniels of Meridian, MS, Johnnie Smith (Jimmy) of Colorado Springs, CO, twin sister, Elaine Baggett of Ocean Springs; sister in law, Susan Gylfe of Ocean Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life visitation will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. Biloxi, MS 39532.
