Dr. Chester D. Gaston, Jr, age 78, of Gulfport, passed away on November 18, 2022.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Col Chester D. Gaston and Elizabeth Eugenia Blake Gaston; and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Marshall and Mary Anderson.
Dr. Gaston is survived by his wife, Janis M. Gaston; his children, Jennifer Flatness (Gary), and Elizabeth Tubertini (Andrew); 3 grandchildren, Isabel Tubertini, Davis Tubertini, and Abigael Flatness; a sister, Madeline Wilder (George); and other relatives and friends.
He was a graduate of the following universities: University of Mississippi with a B.F.A. in Design, University of Nebraska with a M.A. in Psychology, and the University of Southern Mississippi with a Ph.D in Clinical Psychology. He served in the U.S. Air Force as a Cartographic Officer achieving the rank of Captain. Dr. Gaston worked as a Staff Psychologist/Neuropsychologist at the VA Gulf Coast Health Care System in Gulfport and Biloxi and retired in 2007. He was a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Divisions 18 and 40, the Mississippi Psychological Association (MPA), and he served on the Mississippi Board of Psychology from 1999 – 2005.
He was a member of St. Mark's Espiscopal church. He was a member of the Degas Pastel Society, where he won numerous awards for his artwork. He loved family gatherings.
Dr. Gaston was an amazing artist, lover of great music, good food, a nice Scotch, and fine clothing. He will be sorely missed by his family & friends.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, from 10:30 am - 11:30 am in the parish hall of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 11322 E Taylor Road, Gulfport, MS 39503. A prayer service will be at 11:30 am in the church. Entombment will be in the columbarium at St. Mark's Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, or the American Heart Association.
