Dr. Rex Anthony Rawls, 51, of Mobile, Alabama, died February, 26, 2018. Dr. Rawls was born in 1966 to the late Don and Dorothy Rawls of Gulfport, Mississippi. He attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he received his B.S. degree and went on to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi, where he received his M.D. degree in Internal Medicine in 1992.
Dr. Rawls served in the U.S. Army Medical Corp from 1992 to 1998, rising to the rank of Major. His service included deployment during the Gulf War to Kuwait. Following his military service, he practiced medicine in Columbia, South Carolina, and Mobile, Alabama, where he was much admired by his many patients.
In addition to his love of medicine, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with his children and friends while doing those things he loved. But the pride and joy of his life were his three children: daughter, Morgan, and sons Blake and Colby, all of whom will dearly miss him and his loving influence on their lives. Further survivors include his former wife and the mother of his children, Jill Rawls, and her brother, Hunter Hardy.
Rex is also survived not only by many friends and colleagues, but also by his siblings: Dr. Russell Rawls, Sr. [Diane], Donna Rawls Smith [Jack], Laurie Rawls, Ruth Rawls Morgan [Don Atwell], and Christy Rawls. Being the youngest boy of three older sisters, Rex soon became an expert practical joker, delighting in scaring his sisters. Rex is also survived by his much-beloved nephew, Dr. Lance Manning [Tareneh], of Fayetteville, Arkansas, as well as numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 6, 2018, at St. James Catholic Church in Gulfport at 1 PM. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Mass.
