Dr. Patrick Louis Pierce, also affectionately known as "Trout King", passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 31.
Dr. Pierce was born in Fayetteville, Arkansas and graduated from Biloxi High School where he was voted Mr. Biloxi High. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi before getting his medical degree at the University of Tennessee Medical School at the early age of twenty-two. Dr. Pierce did his internship at Gorgas Hospital in the Canal Zone, Panama, where he met the love of his life, Martita. Pat lived a love-filled and adventurous life with Martita, from his Medical Air Force physician days in Turkey, to his residency in Ophthalmology at Tulane University Medical School in New Orleans, and finally landing in Long Beach, Mississippi. If he wasn't with his family or working at his Pierce Eye Clinic, Pat was either quail hunting or on the "Skip Jack II" with his many fishing and hunting buddies. Dr. Pierce had his Ophthalmology practice in Gulfport for 30 years. He was Chief of Staff at Memorial Hospital, and served on the board of the Mississippi Health Care Commission. He was a longtime member of the Gulfport Yacht Club and the Gulf Coast Carnival Association.
Pat was blessed with four daughters, Lisa Guyton (Jimmy), Sandra Boddie (George), Stella Wolf (David), and Vanessa Rodriguez (Jose), who cherish his kind heart and spirit, and as he would say, four sons-in-law that made up for having four girls. "Paw Paw" will always be in the hearts of his eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Alex Guyton, Jennifer Ruth Guyton, Nathan Boddie, Cliff Guyton, Sarah Boddie Robbins, Patrick Pierce Boddie, Daniel Wolf, Isabel Wolf, Victoria Wolf, Sebastian Rodriguez, Isaac Rodriguez, Louis Pierce Guyton, and Lily Robbins , and he will be the first to meet his granddaughter Katherine Grace in heaven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Vertice Pierce; his brother, Ed Pierce; and his granddaughter, Katherine Grace Wolf.
