Dr. Moran, Jr.

Doctor Carl Joseph Moran, Jr., age 76 years, passed peacefully into God's embrace on February 11, 2019, at his home in Diamondhead, Mississippi, surrounded by family and friends.
Carl was a shining light to his family, friends, and community.  As a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, beloved brother, uncle, physician, and friend, he brought a kindness and generosity of spirit to all areas of his life.  He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
From an early age, Carl knew he wanted to be able to help people and to make a lasting difference in their lives.  He had a love and passion for Chemistry and a strong work ethic that led him to ultimately pursue a career in medicine.
Following his graduation from Hancock North Central in 1960, Carl continued his education at Mississippi State University where he earned is his undergraduate degree in Chemistry.  While at State, he met his life-long love, Jacqueline Durham, who became his wife on July 2, 1966.
Following his graduation from State, Carl was accepted to the University of Mississippi School of Medicine where he completed his medical degree in 1968.  He began his professional life as a general practitioner at The Raymond Clinic. To his many friends in Raymond, Carl simply became known as "Doc."   In the addition to being the "town doc", he was an integral and active citizen of the town of Raymond, Mississippi, for over 20 years.
Doc and Jackie made their home in Raymond where their family was completed with two daughters, Melissa and Marianna.  Over the years, he shared many hobbies with his family many of which centered around their farm just outside of Raymond.  He raised race horses but traded them for Tennessee Walkers once his daughters were old enough to show horses.  He also raised Greyhounds and cattle.  He especially enjoyed teaching the girls to fish on the small pond that always seemed to have the biggest fish.
Carl loved his practice and his town but the challenge of emergency medicine called to him.  He began a new professional journey as an emergency room physician.  He began practicing in a number of small hospitals throughout central Mississippi.  Eventually, he moved back to the Gulf Coast full time.  He found a home at Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and continued to work there until his retirement.
During his years on the Gulf Coast, Carl renewed his love for gardening.  In his yard in Raymond, he had over 100 rose bushes but at the Coast he began growing and propagating prize-winning camellias. He transformed 10 acres of the family farm located in Kiln into a lush camellia garden with over 300 camellia bushes.  He named this lovely place Geneva Gardens in honor of his beloved mother.  He was an active member of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Camellia Club and the American Camellia Society, entering shows and leading grafting workshops for many years.
Throughout his personal and professional life, Carl never failed to help people whenever he could.  If someone would mention returning a favor or kindness, he would always say of any good deed, "If you really want to repay me, help someone in need when you are able."  He knew that very often the help we give is a small thing to us but to the person we are helping it could change everything. In these small things, a force of kindness is created revealing moments of grace.
He practiced medicine like a fine art perfecting his ability to genuinely listen to those in his care, connecting with them on a truly human level.  He brought the same level of passion and devotion to everything he loved-his family, medicine, and his never-ending quest for his next great adventure.  He lived a joyful life that he grabbed with both hands and had a heart filled with desire for new discoveries.  He has now completed his earthly journey but will continue to live in the hearts of those who love him.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Joseph and Geneva Hoda Moran; his sister, Edna Moran Lutz, her husband, Greg, and their infant daughter, Kaitlyn; his brother-in-law, Jack Gordy; his nephew, Dylan Gordy; and his niece, Jami Moran Cuevas.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his daughters, Melissa Manderson (Chris) and Marianna Flowers (Carl); three beloved grandchildren, Ava Leigh Manderson, Jordan Currie, and Tanner Leggett; his loving brothers and sisters, Helen Teachout (Bill), Warren Moran (Alyce), Lowell Moran (Sue), Frances Gordy, Barbara Westerfield (Woody), Philip Moran (Sheila); many nieces and nephews who he loved very much.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 15, 2019, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 9113 Kiln Delisle Road, Pass Christian, MS 39571. A Celebration of Life service will be at 2 pm on Saturday, February, 16, 2019, at the Diamondhead Community Church, 5301 Diamondhead Circle, Diamondhead, MS 39525, where friends may visit from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm.  A private interment will take place on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at the Moran Family Cemetery in Kiln at the family farm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Hospital of Gulfport Foundation, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Camellia Club, or a charity of your choice.
