Douglas Lee McGowan, Sr., age 59 and a resident of Gulfport, died on Thursday, January 5, 2012, in Gulfport.
Mr. McGowan was a native of Baton Rouge, LA where he was a member of Teamster Local. He retired from the U.S. Army where he was a specialist and expert sharpshooter with the M-16 rifle and an aircraft mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita McGowan of Gulfport; his mother, Carolyn (Jake) Boggs of Baton Rouge; his father, Issac F. (Ellen) McGowan of Denham Springs, LA; his sister, Sandra (Stephen) Rouillier of Baton Rouge; his brother, Donald F. McGowan of Picayune; his daughter, Tonya Alleman of Baton Rouge; his son, Douglas McGowan, Jr. of Baton Rouge; his brothers-in-law, John R. (Janice) Beverly of Mobile, David (Hope) Beverly of Birmingham, AL, and Anthony Beverly of Mobile, AL; his sisters-in-law, Shirley (Rudy) Jerkins and Mary Williams all of Mobile; special friends, Demetrius Walker and Carrie Thomas both of Gulfport and a host of uncles, aunts, and other relatives.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at 1:30pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road in Gulfport, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery.
