Douglas L. Jackson, age 74 and a resident of Biloxi passed away Sunday, December 7, 2014 in Gulfport.
Mr. Jackson was a Vietnam veteran, retiring from the U.S. Army with the rank of CW3. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Cluster & V Device, Air Medal with Numerals 25, Army Commendation Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster & V Device; the Purple Heart, and other awards. He then worked with and retired from the Biloxi Police Department, where he was recognized as Policeman of the Year, and later retired from the VA Health System police division. He was a hardworking man, and was always active.
In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking and golf.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Franklin and Ruthie Pearl Evans Jackson.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Martha Jane ""Janie"" Jackson of Biloxi; his daughter, Alisha Jackson of Kosciusko; step-children: Darlene Jansen of St. Petersburg, FL, Sherlene Robertson of Kosciusko, and Jelene Ellington of Plano, TX; sisters, Donna Sanchez of Pensacola, FL, and Susan Harrison of Florence, MS; brother, Thomas B. Jackson of Houston, TX; niece: Deborah Frawley of Pensacola, FL; nephew: Richard Gamble of Annapolis, MD; two grandchildren: Brittany Merchant and Jonathan O'Donnell; six step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren; and other extended loving family members.
Friends may visit from 12:45 p.m. until the 1:30 p.m. funeral service on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. Interment with military honors will follow in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund at www.vvmf.org
