Dorris Dobbins passed away peacefully at her home in Ocean Springs, MS on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the age of 76.
Dorris is survived by her sons, Donald Roy Dobbins, Millbrook, AL, David (Amanda) Dobbins, Ocean Springs, MS, Samuel (Kelli) Dobbins Jr, Mt. Holly, NJ, Donald (Jay) Dobbins, Mt. Holly, NJ; daughter, Sandra (Jack) Tenhet, Ocean Springs, MS; brothers, Jack Murrie, Praire View, WI, Bill (Jo) Murrie, Bristol, WI; sister, Madeline Farmer, Hammond, IN; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 3 grand-dog’s and best friend Dave Bryan.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Evaughn Murrie; son, Robert Dobbins; granddaughter, Holly Chavers; great-granddaughter, Madi Johnson; sister, Donna Selzer; daughter-in-law, Ronda Dobbins.
Dorris is a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ocean Spring, MS and former member of Yarbrough Street Baptist Church in Montgomery, AL. While living in Montgomery she retired from TG&Y Stores where she worked 13 years in the office. She later retired from MAX Credit where she worked 28 years in the Accounting Department and received awards for distinguished service and employee of the quarter multiple times. She also retired from Yarbrough Street Baptist Church where she worked 31 years as the church secretary and was recognized as “The World’s Best Ministerial Assistant” by the congregation.
Dorris was an avid supporter of Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of Drum Corp in Alabama for 37 years where she held financial responsibilities serving as the treasurer. During her time helping with the corps, she also helped in the kitchen, operated their souvenir trailer and drove one of their charter buses. In 2016 she was honored for her volunteer service to Southwind when she was inducted into the Southwind Hall of Fame.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 service at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. Biloxi, MS 39532 in West Jackson County.
