Dorothy L. Wilson, age 84, of Gulfport, passed away on March 30, 2011.
Mrs. Wilson was born on December 6, 1926, in Long Beach, California. She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved the Lord and relied on Him throughout her life and was blessed by Him continuously. The love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild was evident on a daily basis. She was always positive. No matter what the adversity, she always knew things would work out for the best in God's perfect timing.
Dorothy loved to travel, and travel she did! She loved to drive and her goal was to visit every state in the union. She accomplished that goal.
She was employed as a cafeteria manager for the Gulfport School System for 33 years; and was a charter member of Gulf Gardens Baptist Church where she served as church Treasurer, Bible School Director, Sunday school teacher, and choir member. She worked tirelessly for the Lord and great will be her reward in heaven.
Dorothy loved the Atlanta Braves. One of her favorite things was traveling to Atlanta's Turner Field to watch them play. We will miss her enthusiasm every spring anticipating the coming season. The Braves have lost a devoted fan.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her 1st husband, James C. Wilson; 2nd husband, Dillard Garner; daughter, Phyllis Cordova; and twin brother, David Martin.
She is survived by her daughters, Shelia Herodes, JoAnn Sperry (Mickey), son Derrel Wilson (Sally); 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at 2:00 PM at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Gulfport.
