Dorothy Sykes

Dorothy D. Sykes, 95, passed away February 25, 2019. You might remember her from her 90 ^th birthday spent celebrating with her workout partners at Planet Fitness, or driving down Robinson Road catching a glimpse of her grooming her landscape. She was a retired school teacher from Bel Aire Elementary School and a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church.
"Dot" was born January 15, 1924 in Louisville, MS to Jesse and Audie Lee Dempsey. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, six siblings and close niece, Lynne Hough. She married James A. Sykes on October 23, 1942.
She is survived by her children, Cynthia Hendry (David Hendry), Steven Sykes (Dorinda Sykes) and Lisa Ford (Grady Ford). She was known as "Granny" to her three grandsons and four great-grandsons Nathan Ford (Mary Ann Ford), Douglas Sykes (Danielle Sykes), Wesley Sykes, Grady Ford, Rowan Ford, Jackson Sykes and Brady Sykes.
A visitation will be held at 10:00AM until 11:00AM on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 11:00AM at the funeral home. A burial will follow the service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Gulfport.
The family is thankful for the support received from The Cottage at Bay Cove, Notre Dame Hospice Care and the staff at Garden Park Hospital.
